Children’s Storytime: S. Hughie Lassiter

Author S. Hughie Lassiter will join us for children’s storytime on Saturday, June 21st and will sign his books from 11:30-2:30.

About the Book

The statue began to speak, and in a deep voice it said, "Kingston, I knew your father. I gave your father powers. I want to give you powers too."

Kingston is a good little eight-year-old boy. He loves to skateboard like his father, Stevie Williams. He goes to school every day, does all his homework, does his chores around the house, and listens to his parents. Kingston realizes it's the right thing to help others, and it makes him feel good.

Kingston is an ordinary kid turned superhero who embraces the powers he has been given and uses it for the good of mankind. This book encourages bravery, kindness, and reading literacy enhanced with a learning tool in the back of the book.

About the Author

S. Hughie Lassiter was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has over ten years of classroom teaching experience, and more than ten years of experience as a social worker. He is currently a Special Education Teacher in Philadelphia where he teaches math and reading in a self-contained classroom. He graduated with a B.A. degree in Social Work from Cheyney State College and attended graduate school where he earned his Teaching Certification in Special Education from the Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.

As the father of Stevie Williams, world-renowned skateboarder, S. Hughie Lassiter divides his time between Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. Realizing the importance of education, in 2004 he designed an educational program (Educate to Skate) where he combined the metrics of learning, physical exercise, and independence with skateboarding to teach math, geometry, and science to elementary and middle-school students. His educational program was successful in Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, and lasted over 13 years.

As an educator, S. Hughie Lassiter believes in the fundamentals of education and literacy…reading, writing, and math, and has written these books for students who are reading at the pre-primer to fourth grade reading levels to improve in phonetics and reading comprehension skills.

Inspired by life experiences of his family, his educational background, and a desire to give back to communities, The Adventures of Kingston to the Rescue series are children’s books promoting reading literacy and fluency, and positive life lessons for children to live, learn and grow by.
